Understanding
Angioedema is an allergic reaction to the tissue under the skin characterized by swelling. Swelling may be accompanied by large stripes on the affected area. Usually the most common part is the area near the lips and eyes.This skin disorder is harmless, can even heal by itself without leaving marks on the skin. However, in some cases, swelling due to angioderma that occurs in the throat can cause sufferers breathing difficult so life-threatening.
Diagnosis
The process of determining the diagnosis of angioedema can be done through a series of interviews and physical examinations. In the interview process, the doctor will ask the symptoms felt by angioedema sufferers. Other possible checks are blood and radiological examinations.Symptoms
Some of the most recognizable symptoms of angioedema are swelling of the underlying tissues. The area most often experienced is around the lips and eyes. Sometimes swelling can be reddish, warm, and painful.Swelling usually lasts only a moment or for one to two days. However, swelling can move to other areas and persist for several days until it becomes chronic. Although it will be disturbing, angioedema rarely develops into a more serious health problem. Treatment
Handling of angioedema that can be done is:- Avoid allergens or things that may cause angioedema
- Avoid consumption of drugs, supplements or herbal remedies when symptoms appear
- Use of drugs such as antihistamines, anti-inflammatory
Cause
Until now, the main cause of angioedema has not been ascertained. In general, however, angioedema is caused by an allergic reaction. Food, wine, drugs or conditions that cause psychic tension is believed to be the trigger factor of angioedema.In some cases, angioedema can occur due to exposure to sunlight, weather (both hot and cold), or insects. In addition, the disease may appear along with other autoimmune diseases. Heredity factor (genetis) also suspected as trigger angioedema.
